For people living with type 1 diabetes and the family and friends they choose.

Meet the Beet and the Buddy

Beet Buddy is being designed for two people. One shares their glucose, and the other keeps an eye out.

The Beet

You live with type 1 diabetes.

  • Share your glucose with the people you trust.
  • Ask for help in one tap, with your latest reading attached.
  • Share insulin on board only if you want to, Buddy by Buddy.

The Buddy

You look out for someone with type 1 diabetes.

  • See their latest reading, which way it's heading and how old it is.
  • Get Low and High alerts at numbers you choose.
  • Hear about it if new readings stop arriving.

Try a Nudge

Nudges are short messages Beet Buddy is being designed to send between a Beet and a Buddy. Send one as Chris, the Beet, and watch it reach Lisa, the Buddy.

Drag to look back two days, or tap 12H to find last night's low. Tap or hold a dot to read it, and tap the red ring or a marker to see what happened.

Sample preview with made-up data: yesterday evening Chris's glucose rose to about 260 after dinner and came back into range. Overnight it fell to 62 mg/dL around 3:06 AM, and Lisa's Low alert went off. On Friday afternoon a new Pod went on, and this morning a new sensor was started. Now it is 112 mg/dL, steady and in range.

Know when it's time to change

Beet Buddy is being designed to show how long a Pod and Sensor have left, right on Home, and to pick up new Pods from the Omnipod 5 app on its own.

About this project

  • Built by Chris Campbell for his own family, and tested privately.
  • Not available to download. A public beta is planned, with no date yet.
  • Not a medical device, and not for treatment decisions.
  • Always rely on your CGM's and pump's own alerts. Beet Buddy is being designed to sit alongside them, never to replace them.

Beet Buddy works alongside your CGM's own app and alarms, never instead of them. Please keep them on.
