Every number shows its age
A reading counts as current for 7 minutes. After that it says “Last known”, so an old number never looks new. At the sensor's limit it says LOW (below 40) or HIGH (above 400).
How it works
Beet Buddy is being designed to read your glucose and show it to the Buddies you choose. It only ever reads: it never sends anything to your pump, your CGM or the Omnipod 5 app.
That's you if you live with type 1 diabetes and share your glucose. Here's how it's being designed to work.
Beet Buddy is an Android app you sign in to with Google. It isn't available to download yet.
In the private test, Dexcom G7 readings reach Beet Buddy through the free xDrip+ app.
Show your Beet Code in Settings, Buddies and sharing. Each Buddy enters it in their app, and you can remove a Buddy at any time.
Insulin on board stays private until you turn it on, then you choose which Buddies see it.
A partner, a parent, a friend: anyone your Beet chooses.
Sign in with Google, then tap Connect to a Beet in Settings, Shared access and enter their code. You only ever see glucose from a Beet who invites you.
Low and High alerts start off. Pick up to three of each in Settings, Glucose alerts. The No data alert is already on, after 20 minutes.
Home lists anything that could stop an alarm, like Do Not Disturb or battery saving, with a button to fix each one. Then send yourself a test alarm.
Beet Buddy is a companion to your Beet's own CGM alarms, never a replacement.
As it's designed and tested so far.
Beet Buddy checks for a new reading every 5 to 15 minutes or so. If it's under the Buddy's Low number, the alert rings for up to 5 minutes, even on Do Not Disturb if they've allowed that. Phone settings can still silence it, and it can arrive a few minutes after the reading.
The Buddy sees “Low reading”, “Still low” or “Rising from low”, each with its time.
“Need help” rings on the Buddy's phone with the reading attached. “I’m okay, I’ve got it” says it's handled: if the Buddy's Low alert is already going off, for 20 minutes it comes as a normal notification instead of an alarm. Never at 55 or below, or if the reading keeps dropping.
A call or a text, whatever the two of you have agreed. Beet Buddy never tells anyone what to do about a number, and it doesn't call anyone or contact emergency services. If you think someone's in danger, call your local emergency number.
Built and tested privately so far. Details may change before a beta.

Up to three Low and three High numbers, with any sound. No snooze: an alert comes back at most every 30 minutes, up to 3 times.
When the Buddy allows it, with a test alarm to be sure.
On from the start, after 20 minutes, with a short note when readings are back.
Need help in one tap for the Beet, kind messages like “Thinking of you” for Buddies, and a heart in reply.
3 to 24 hours with the 70 to 180 band, the last 7 days, and markers for Pod and Sensor changes, lows and Nudges.
From Omnipod 5, only for the Buddies the Beet chooses, and marked Old after 12 minutes.
Grace period included. New Pods are picked up from the Omnipod 5 app on their own.
A watch tile and complications, home-screen widgets and a charging screen saver, each showing how old the reading is.
Coming soon: Last 7 days, a weekly summary; Low check-ins, when a low isn't getting better.
It never changes your pump, your CGM or the Omnipod 5 app, and never tells you what to do about a number.
Readings, insulin on board and new Pods come in on their own.
And bug reports you send stay on our own server.
